Tree of Hope
Project Overview
Origami paper and urethane foam The Tree of Hope is a homage to all the young people diagnosed and battling cancer. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of Senbazuru, 1,000 origami paper cranes surround our tree to represents the collective strength and determination in facing the challenges of cancer, offering support and solidarity to those affected by the disease.
This tree is dedicated to beautiful young girl called Natalie who we met during Michael’s cancer journey. Michael would regularly visit Natalie during his chemotherapy sessions. Her room was covered, floor to roof in paper cranes made by her community. We made this to honour them.
The Tree of Hope was first shown at the 2024 Mike Day and is the first of our paper crane collection. The 1000 paper cranes were crafted by our friends and family. I then created the tree sculpture it self, from a wireframe which was coated in spray foam and sprayed for texture.
